Brownies visit Walled Gardens
The Walled Gardens of Cannington recently welcomed the 1st Combwich Brownie group, as part of the Big Brownie Birthday Challenges, to celebrate 100 years of the organisation.
The challenge was to ‘find out more about the local area by going out and exploring something new’. The Brownies visited the Gardens and received a tour from Grounds and Gardens Supervisor, Jayne Alcock, which allowed the group to learn new facts about the Walled Gardens.
Jayne said, “I was delighted to be asked to give a guided tour of the gardens to a local group of Brownies. I was one myself many years ago! The Brown Owl of the pack is also a regular volunteer at the gardens. I was very impressed with the knowledge and enthusiasm the girls showed toward plants and gardening. It was a pleasure to show them around and I hope that some of them consider a career in horticulture in the future.”
One of the Brownies, Amelia said, “I really enjoyed finding out about the environments that the plants live in.” Another commented, “It was amazing - I really liked the Bishop's Garden.”
The Gardens are currently operating their winter hours, but are open for visits to the Gardens, Tea Room and Gift Shop.
