The Walled Gardens of Cannington will be open for Mothering Sunday on Sunday 6 March, 10.30am – 2.30pm.
All mothers who attend will receive free entry and a special gift (whilst stocks last). Under 16s, when accompanied by an adult, also get free entry. During winter, the Gardens, although a traditional time of rest, still has lots to see. The Dry Gardens arn’t fully cut back until early spring, meaning the grasses and seed heads can still be seen. The design and structure of yew hedges and trees can also be admired.
No matter the weather, the Botanical Glasshouse, the only one in Somerset, which is divided into climactic zones, provides visitors the chance to travel around the globe. Within the Glasshouse, there is the newly built Aquaponics Centre, where aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil) are combined so that fish and plants grow together. The Tea Room also provides welcome shelter from the cooler weather with a selection of cakes and light refreshments.
The Gardens are open Monday – Friday, from 10.30am – 2.30pm, until Saturday 2 April, when the Gardens will be open seven days a week, 10am – 4pm (last entrance). There are a number of other events throughout March, including free entry on Sunday 13 March if you have a Lambing Fun Day programme (taking place at Rodway Farm, Cannington) and Easter Weekend on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March, 10am – 4pm.
