Successful Christmas Craft Fair (December 2009)

The Walled Gardens of Cannington in Church Street hosted a very popular Christmas Craft Fair over the weekend of the 12 and 13 December -  the first event of its kind at the Gardens. Hundreds of people braved the cold weather and turned out to enjoy the wide variety of local handcrafted arts and crafts gifts on offer.

Whilst the adults were able to browse the stalls and speak to the local artists and craftsmen, the children were entertained in the Children’s Workshop, making Christmas decorations, crackers and painting pots to take home. The children also had fun in the Chocolate Santa Hunt, searching the Gardens to win a giant chocolate Father Christmas.

After a day of shopping, tired and hungry visitors could treat themselves to either a spot of pampering courtesy of the staff from the College’s Health & Beauty Zone or the comforting homemade soups, warm mince pies and hot drinks in the Tea Rooms. The festive colours of the Cannington-grown poinsettias were also huge hit in the plant shop.

“It was really great to see a local event of this kind receive the support that it did”, said Jane Wagner, Business Development Manager at the College. “Having seen the quality of goods that were on offer over the two days, I am confident that there will be some happy faces on Christmas morning! The Craft Fair was the perfect end to our 2009 season at the Gardens. We’re looking forward to the exciting events we have planned for 2010.”
