Somerset Garden Festival a hit! (May 2011)

Staff and stallholders at Bridgwater College's Walled Gardens of Cannington welcomed over 1,500 visitors last weekend to its first Somerset Garden Festival. The festival showcased the magnificent gardens, as well as a wonderful selection of garden stalls, plants sales, arts and crafts and jewellery stands.

Nigel Cox, lecturer for the Royal Horticultural Society and Horticulture programmes at Bridgwater College, was very popular with his ‘plant doctor' stand advising visitors on any gardening questions and problems they had. Bridgwater College staff were also on-hand talking about the variety of land-based courses available and what they involve.

Visitors were able to take part in two free practical workshops, as part of the Cannington Horticultural Group; pruning skills with Nigel Cox and how to make floristry bows and gift wrap flowers with Neil Bain, Master Florist at Bridgwater College.

Chris Hill, Walled Gardens' Manager, said,“It has been great to see so many new and returning visitors to the gardens. The Tea Rooms have been very popular especially with the new tea garden area where people have been able to sit outside and enjoy the sun and the Gardens!”

The Walled Gardens hold a variety of different events throughout the year. See photos from this event on our Flickr Page.
