Volunteer Group Visits the Walled Gardens (June 2013)
A group of volunteers from Age UK Somerset visited Bridgwater College's Walled Gardens of Cannington earlier in the month to celebrate Volunteers' Week, which runs from 1-7 June.
The group started their visit with a drink in the Tea Room, followed by a tour of the Walled Gardens by Andre Gardner, the Grounds Manager and Jayne Alcock, Grounds Supervisor. After a relaxing break, with a slice of homemade cake and drink, the group was able to end their day strolling around the gardens at their leisure.
The volunteers were given the tour as a 'thank you' by Age UK Somerset who wanted to show their appreciation to the members who help older people in Somerset and North Somerset.
Volunteer, Delphine Morgan said, "Fantastic tour of the Gardens which has help broaden my horizons!"
Volunteering Co-ordinator of Age UK Somerset, Kate Barrington said, "Our volunteers are a group of lovely people who are making a huge difference to the lives of the older people of Somerset and North Somerset. They work as Befrienders, making regular visits to older people who feel lonely, Advocates, helping older people to claim benefits they are entitled to and Flexercise, leading gentle chair-based exercise groups. We use Volunteers' Week as an opportunity to show our fantastic Volunteers how much they are cherished."
Walled Gardens worker, Richard Mullan said, "It has been a pleasure to welcome the Age UK Somerset volunteer group to the Walled Gardens of Cannington. The volunteers help to make a big difference to the lives of older people and the opportunity to help say 'thank you' was one that we were keen to be part of."
